Carol Vavrosky, 93, of West Fargo, ND, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo.
Carol Suzanne Bergquam was born at the Deaconess Hospital in Grafton, ND on April 2, 1932, the seventh child of Mr. Arthur & Rachel (Johnson) Bergquam. She was baptized and confirmed in the Grafton Lutheran Church by Rev. Hilsem. She attended Grafton Central School and graduated with honors in the spring of 1950. Carol attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing for 6 months but returned to Grafton and worked at J. C. Penny Co. as a cashier. Then she was married to Timothy W. Vavrosky at St. Mary’s Church in Park River in March of 1952. Carol was a stay-at-home mom raising 4 children until her appointment by Senator Quentin Burdick to the position of Acting Postmaster at the Park River post office in 1965. The family moved to Fargo in 1967 when she applied for the position of Statistician and Resource Center Librarian for the Department of Agricultural Economics at North Dakota State University. While there, she was the co-author of “Statistics of North Dakota Agriculture.” She was employed by NDSU from 1967-1992, Midwest Home Health Care as a Medi-Van driver from 1992-1995, then Lutheran Social Service Senior Companions from1998-2010. She loved playing cards and other games and was a big Bison football, and Minnesota Vikings fan.
She is survived by her children, Michael Soaringhawk, Rebecca Vavrosky and Steven (Ann) VavRosky; her grandchildren, Heather Black, Adam(Patty)Zuber, Amanda“Amy”(Travis)Rupp, Emily Zuber, and Reid VavRosky; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Black, Maren Black, Lowen Zuber, Olivia Zuber, Arthur O’Rourke, Alma Rupp and Otto Rupp; and sister-in-law, Joan Bergquam.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur & Rachel; son, Thomas Vavrosky; and siblings, Agnes, Lillian, Ruth, Harriet, Arthur Jr (“Bud”), Violet, and Richard(“Dick”).
Celebration of Life Service: Monday, September 8, 2025, at 11 am, at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND, with a visitation one hour before the service.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.
