Carol Cox

     It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carol Rae Walks Cox, in Fargo ND, a longtime resident of Ellendale ND, on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the Presbyterian United Methodist Church in Ellendale, ND.

     Carol was born on October 18, 1942, in Velva, North Dakota to Floyd Walks and Lorraine McDaniel (Walks) Jury. The family moved to Wimbledon, ND where she attended school. She moved to Jamestown in 1960 and worked at Ebert’s Café. Married in 1961 and divorced in 1967. In 1968, she married Francis Jacob Cox and moved to Ellendale, ND.

     Carol & Fran owned and operated Fran’s Bakery in Ellendale, ND with lots of help from their children. Later adding a full restaurant and pizza shop for several years before going back to just the bakery. They retired in 2006 after almost 40 years of business. They enjoyed traveling the countryside, and abroad, visiting relatives, camping, watching Wheel of Fortune, and the occasional trip to the casino. Carol was most interested in genealogy and had traced ancestors back to the 1600’s.

     She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; her sons, Ronald Lee Farthing and Randy Cox; twin daughters, Connie & Christy Cox; grandsons, Jason & Joseph Gravens; brother, Jackie Walks; and sister, Rosemary Beyer.

     She is survived by her beloved dog, Missy; 2 siblings, Larry (Heidi) Walks, and Paty Barningham; 5 Children, Kathy (Joel) Bechtold, Gigi (Vern) Heltemes, Terry (Joan) Farthing, Randy Farthing, and Daughter in Law Julie (Mike) Farthing Leveque; 8 Grandchildren, Jody Rall, Shane Pendergraft, Christopher Marteny, Richelle Ulmer, Adrian Farthing, Aaron Farthing, Brianna Johnson, and Noah Bechtold; 13 Great Grandchildren, Christy Pendergraft, Brittney Hannesson, Leah Flath, JR Perleberg, Maxwell Ulmer, Maggie Ulmer, Molly Ulmer, Hailey Farthing, Kayson Farthing, Lily Farthing, Charleigh Farthing (Anticipated Arrival November 2023), Lyrika, and Willow; 8 Great-Great Grandchildren, Hadley, Ava, Ellie, Oliver, John, Nash, Holt, and Hugh.
