Carl James Berth, 83 of Fargo, ND formerly of Green Bay WI and Tucson AZ, went to his eternal home Tuesday March 8, 2022. 

Born in Peshtigo WI to parents Robert William Berth and Anna Claire (Hansen) Berth.  Carl married Elaine “Ellie” Morse on January 15, 1966 in Tucson AZ.  They shared 30 years together until her death on June 3, 1996. In 2000, Carl was spending time in Green Bay WI where he met Janice Marvil.  He relocated to Green Bay where they married on September 15, 2001.  They moved from Green Bay to Fargo ND in 2020 which remains their current residence.  Carl did not have children from his first marriage but became instant Grandpa to five grandchildren, two stepchildren and in-laws.  Carl welcomed his new role as “Papa Carl” and adopted all as his own.  He loved the many family gatherings, holidays, and special events.  Carl enjoyed woodworking, golf, history, and real estate.    

After High School Carl enlisted in the United States Air Force on June 20, 1955.  Following basic training Carl received schooling to serve as a weather observer and was assigned to the Air Weather Service, a division of Air Transport Service (MATS).  His first military post was to the 30th Weather Squadron in Korea where he served 9 months.  Carl later became a weather forecaster and wing weather officer.  He provided weather forecasting for military aircraft including the U2 spy plane.  His years of service and advancements awarded him Msgt Carl J Berth USAF on July 1, 1971.  His 20-year career has many notable mentions. Two had significance, February 1962 assigned duty on Christmas Island, near the equator, conducting hydrogen bomb testing.  In April 1967 he was assigned to Vietnam for one year. After returning home he was reassigned to Vietnam an additional two months.  Carl retired from the Air Force on June 30, 1975.  Following his military career Carl worked for Phelps Dodge Corporation in Phoenix AZ providing daily weather data to determine production levels.  Carl received a master’s degree in Business from the University of Arizona.

Carl is survived by his wife Janice Marvil Berth, Stepchildren Scott (Laura) Marvil, Melissa (Doug) Johnson, 5 grandchildren, Ethan Marvil, Noah Marvil, Emma Marvil, Alexis (Dustin) Syverson, Macy Johnson.  1 great grandchild Emmett Syverson, brother Robert Berth.  Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. Berth and Anna Claire Berth (Hansen), first wife, Elaine Berth, sister, DonnaJean Johnson (Berth).  

An informal gathering of friends and family will be held at Kroll’s West in Green Bay WI, Sunday evening March 20th at 5:30pm.  A private burial with military service is scheduled for March 21, 2022 at Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery located in King, WI. 

In Lieu of Flowers, the family suggests a donation to any animal shelter as Carl was an advocate for the care of animals.
