Caren Carleen Murdoff was called home on the afternoon of April 3, 2025, on her 82nd birthday at Lilac Homes in Dilworth, MN. She was surrounded by family members.
Caren was born April 3, 1943, in Hazelton, ND. She was the third of 8 children born to Leopold and Hilda (Grenz) Schiermeister into a farming family. Caren graduated from Hazelton high school in 1960 as Salutatorian. She continued her education at North Dakota State University and graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a minor in Child Psychology.
Caren married Tommy Murdoff June 9, 1964. Caren and Tommy had three children: Marc, Carla, and Jayson. They divorced June 3, 1993.
Caren was active in PTA, Camp Fire Girls, Boy Scouts, and was State Treasurer for Babe Ruth baseball in North Dakota for 20 years.
Caren was a loving mother and grandmother, a beautiful soul who would help anyone. She was a life-loving free spirit who was always looking for a new adventure, that involved travel, exploring museums or caring for all the homeless animals. Caren’s radiant smile lit up the room and her humor would leave you laughing. She enjoyed coffee, gardening, animals, reading, the Pink Panther, sardines, chocolate covered cherries on Christmas and her beloved New England Patriots.
Caren may be gone, but she will live in our hearts and memories forever.
She is survived by her daughters, sons, and daughters-in-law; Lisa Holstein (Atlanta, GA), Marc Murdoff and Briana Grossman (Jamestown, ND), Carla Murdoff (Hazelhurst, WI), and Jayson Murdoff and Stacy Wahl (Fargo, ND).
