Brent Sjulstad Obituary

Brent Sjulstad, 47, of West Fargo, ND, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at his home.

Brent Steven Sjulstad was born on June 18, 1976 at St. John’s Hospital in Fargo, ND.  Proud first-time parents, Steven and Marcia (Akers) Sjulstad, raised him in Moorhead, MN where he attended school and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1995. He then attended Moorhead Area Vocational Technical School and earned an electrician’s degree. Once out of school, he worked for Magnum Electric. He later went on to become a master electrician and start his own business, Legacy Electric.  Brent was dedicated to building his business from the ground up, and was always grateful for the help of his right-hand-man, John Mercer, for his support and expertise that helped the business thrive.

April 29, 2009 was a day that forever changed Brent’s life.  It is the day his son Wyatt was born to Brent and his first wife, Brideen (Daniels) Sjulstad. Wyatt instantly became the apple of his eye and Brent cherished each and every moment teaching Wyatt about the great outdoors. Many of their special memories as father and son centered around hunting, fishing, and time spent at the lake.  You would never see or hear Brent prouder than when sharing tales of Wyatt’s first buck, latest catch, or any one of many hat-tricks in hockey.  Brent’s love for his son was so evident and will forever live on in the memories they shared.

On November 18, 2022 Brent married Sarah (Altepeter) Sjulstad in Glyndon, MN.  They made their home in West Fargo.  They enjoyed spending time dancing together, playing horseshoes with friends, creating memories at the lake where they spent countless hours improving the property, and supporting each of their children’s sporting activities and events, including attending Bison games.

Brent was an avid outdoorsman – likely stemming from the many hunting and fishing trips shared with his dad, Steve, during his younger years.  Brent owned hunting land with a dream of one day building a home there.  His dad helped him make that a reality by working side-by-side to build his dream home on that land – memories that can never be replaced.  Archery, waterskiing, boating, football, racing, fireworks in the summer, dogs, campfires, you name it… Brent loved it all.  He also enjoyed dancing, country music, cooking, and grilling – often making tasty meals that were seasoned to perfection.  Brent was always up for a great time, and always added to the fun in a way that only he could… by bringing an element of humor and well-timed one-liners to each and every interaction.  In fact, anyone who knew him will forever be able to hear his voice saying, “tastes like chicken” when eating anything that did… or maybe did not… taste like chicken.

Throughout the years, Brent was on an ongoing journey of faith that ultimately led him back to a relationship with God.  Brent’s family and friends find immense comfort in knowing that he had the support and love that faith in God provides.

Brent is survived by his wife, Sarah; son, Wyatt; step-children, Justin, Austin, Faith, and Zander; his parents, Steve and Marcia Sjulstad; sister, BreAnne (Jason) Sjulstad Johnson; niece, Atley; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents; grandparents, Reuben and Edna Sjulstad, and Robert and Darleen Akers; and an aunt and uncle, Robert and Jennifer Akers.
