Bonita Griffin Obituary

Bonita I. Griffin, 77, of West Fargo, ND, passed away Monday, February 17, 2025, at Sanford Health in Fargo.

Bonita was born May 22, 1947, in Hettinger, ND, the daughter of Merlin and Gurnald (Johnson) Hanson.  She was raised in Reeder and graduated from Reeder High School.  Bonita graduated from Moorhead State with a Bachelor of Business Education Degree.  She went on to graduate from NDSU with a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling.  Bonita was employed as a guidance counselor at Lewis and Clark Elementary School in Fargo until her retirement. She experienced many former students recognizing her in public places and reaching out to thank her.

Bonita and Gene Griffin were married in 1968,  living  in various homes starting with a tin shack on campus at NDSU. They built a home in North Fargo, eventually settled to the  South of West Fargo on the Sheyenne.

She enjoyed Mahjongg, Bunko, golf and spending time with the grandchildren.  Golf was her favorite sport and is credited with two “hole-in-one” shots. Flower gardening during summer, her favorite season, brought her great joy and she received many compliments from neighbors and passer byes. She enjoyed her book club and the trips with Gene several times a year to Wine Country in Northern California. Playing games with her grandchildren was her favorite thing to do when she was with them.

Surviving is her husband: Gene of West Fargo;  daughter:  Nikole (Brad) of Savage, MN;  son:  Patrick (Jackie) of Lake Elmo, MN;  daughter-in-law:  Amie of West Fargo; grandchildren:  Andrew, Kael, Ian, Flynn, Ender and Parker; and a brother:  Will (Betty) of Pierre, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son:  Michael.

Celebration of Life:  5:30p.m. to 8 pm, Friday, February 28, 2025, at the Double Tree, 825 E. Beaton Dr,  West Fargo, ND
