Betty Moen

Betty Moen, 92, Fargo, ND formerly of Arthur and Hunter, ND died on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Bethany Retirement Living on 42nd in Fargo, ND. 

Betty Louise Rasmussen was born on April 29, 1931, in Hunter, ND to Arthur and Frieda (Janke) Rasmussen.  She grew up in Hunter and graduated from Hunter High School, then attended Concordia College in Moorhead for two semesters.  On June 19, 1951, she married Deane Moen at First Lutheran Church in Hunter, where she had also been baptized and received confirmation.  Betty and Deane farmed and raised their family four miles west of Hunter.  

On the farm Betty was an avid baker, gardener, and canner who always had good treats for the table.  She loved sewing and knitting, making and mending garments for four generations of her family and many neighbors. Betty had an artistic eye and enjoyed painting scenes and sketching. 

Betty was active in her church Ladies Aid and served several years as Sunday School Superintendent. She was also a lifelong member of the Hunter American Legion Auxiliary and served as Unit President for many years. Betty maintained a close-knit group of friends who looked forward to celebrating their birthday lunches together. 

She is survived by her daughter Deborah (David) Slais of Williston, ND; son Lance (Doris) of Fargo; three grandchildren, Jessica Slais of Detroit, MI; Benjamin (Sarah) Moen of Fargo and Brittany (Ryan) Haugo of Fargo; a great-grandson Carson Haugo and great-granddaughter Piper Haugo. 

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert, sister Joyce, and husband Deane. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church in Hunter. 

Funeral: Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at 2:00 PM at First Lutheran Church, Hunter, with visitation one hour prior. 

Burial: Hunter Cemetery
