Barb Buhr

   Barbara “Barb” J. Buhr, 85, of Buffalo, ND, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Eventide Fargo in Fargo, ND.

   Barbara Jean Limke was born on June 9, 1940, to David and Jean (Guidinger) Limke at Kenmare Deaconess Hospital in Kenmare, ND. She grew up on a farm near Lansford, ND, along with her four brothers and one sister. Barb attended elementary and junior high school seven years at Lockwood country school and then one year in Glenburn, ND. She graduated from Lansford High School in 1958. She went on to attend North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND, graduating in 1962 with a degree in Home Economics Education. Following college she taught in Carrington, ND, and later Tower City, ND.

   While at NDSU, Barb was a member of Kappa Delta sorority, where she met a young Theta Chi fraternity man who was one of the bus boys for meals served at the sorority house. That young man was Arnold Buhr. Soon Arnie was dating his “Barbie Doll.” Barbara and Arnold were married on June 22, 1963, in Lansford, ND. They lived in Tower City, ND and then eventually moved to the farm where Arnie grew up near Buffalo, ND. That is where they spent their lives together farming and raising four children. After teaching, Barb was busy being a wife and mom, always helping wherever help was needed on the farm. Being a home economics teacher, she was very good at cooking, baking, and sewing. She was always there for her kids and later grandkids with her creativity in helping with their projects and being their biggest supporter in every activity, particularly sports. She enjoyed visiting family and friends, puzzle books, sporting events, keno, and traveling to Las Vegas.

   Barbara is survived by her husband, Arnold; daughter, Jacqueline Vavra, Buffalo, ND; son, Brent (Angela) Buhr, Casselton, ND; son, Brian (Robyn) Buhr, Buffalo, ND; daughter, Jennifer “JJ” (Harley) Thoreson, Fingal, ND; grandchildren, Micheal J. (Hannah) Vavra, Moorhead, MN, Jami Vavra, Alexis “Lexi” Buhr, Fargo, ND, Peyton Buhr, Eli Buhr, Kole Buhr, Josephine “Josie” Buhr, Kirksville, MO, Hailey Thoreson, West Fargo, ND, Halley Thoreson, Hadley Thoreson, and Hatley Thoreson; step-granddaughter, Erica Williams, New Castle, DE; brother, Denis (Jacky) Limke, Chandler, AZ; brother, Richard (Jean) Limke, Bismarck, ND; sister, Judith Wells, Garrison, ND; brother, James (Rebecca) Limke, Wadena, MN; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Limke, Minot, ND; sister-in-law, Collette Folstad, West Fargo, ND; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Raymond & Connie Sletteland, Devils Lake, ND; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, James & Cloyce Voeller, Lake Elmo, MN; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

   Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, David and Jean (Guidinger) Limke; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lorenz and Sylvia Buhr; brother, Patrick Limke; brother-in-law, Elroy Folstad; and son-in-law, Micheal “Mike” A. Vavra.

Visitation: Wednesday, February 25, 2026 from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Buffalo, ND.

Prayer Service: Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 7:00 PM at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Buffalo, ND.

Funeral Mass: Thursday, February 26, 2026 at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Buffalo, ND.

Interment: Buffalo Cemetery, spring of 2026.
