Arnold O. Johnson, 92, of Cooperstown, formerly of Fargo, died Sunday, June 21, 2020, at the Griggs County Care Center in Cooperstown.
Arnold Orville Johnson was born to Iver and Bernice (Lindermann) Johnson on July 5, 1927, 5th child of 12 and lived in Page, ND, where he went to country school. He worked on various farms in the area before entering the Army in March of 1946 and spent almost a year in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1947. Arnold married Margaret Peterson, November 18, 1950. She brought child into the marriage, Dwight (Terry) Johnson of Fargo. Together they had a daughter, Janet (Pat) Foerster of Fargo. The couple lived in Middle River, MN early in their marriage and then moved to Fargo in 1956, where they lived until Margaret passed away on February 21, 2008. Arnie then moved to a senior apartment in 2012 and in 2015, moved to Cooperstown to be close to his niece.
He worked for a couple of roofing companies before starting his own company, A & R Roofing in 1976 that he ran for 19 years before retiring in 1995. He worked after retirement pushing snow and yard work.
Arnie and Margaret raised and enjoyed their grandson, Jason Anderson. He also enjoyed gardening and tending to his lawn.
He is survived by his daughter: Janet; step-son: Dwight; grandchildren: Shannon Maack, and Jason Anderson; great-grandsons: Caden Anderson and Wyatt Anderson; great-granddaughter: Layona Anderson all of Fargo; brothers: Frank of Las Vegas, NV, Glenn (Carmen) of West Fargo and Elvin (Shirley) of Page, ND; a sister: Sylvia Chinn, Philadelphia, PA; many nieces and nephews.
Arnie was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers: Erving, Marvin, Wesley and Norman and sisters: Gertrude Rye, Viola Ose and Genevieve Nelson; brothers-in-law: Dan Nelson, Clarence Haugen and Allan Ose; sisters-in-law: Evonne Johnson, Donna Johnson and Barb Johnson.
Private service: 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2020, at West Funeral Home in West Fargo.
Immediately following the service, friends are welcome to attend the Military Rites in the parking lot of West Funeral Home.
