Arlis Pfingsten Obituary

Arlis Dorothy (Quisberg) Pfingsten, 81, Casselton, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at Sanford Broadway Medical Center, Fargo, surrounded by her family.  Arlis was born at home on June 10, 1940 at Embden, to Russel and Dorothy (Rieck) Quisberg.  She attended Embden grade school, graduated from Fargo Central High School, and attended Valley City State College for 2 years.  She taught one year at her home school in Embden.

Arlis married LeRoy John Pfingsten at Goshen Moravian Church on August 21, 1959.  She then became a stay-at-home mom and farmwife.  They lived on the Quisberg family farm south of Embden for two years, Owego Township in Ransom County on a ranch for three years, then 50 years on their farmstead at Durbin.

Arlis was in her glory when surrounded by family and friends.  She loved hosting many holidays, and small or large gatherings in her home.  Everyone was welcomed with open arms, food and a bed, if need be. Arlis was a lifelong member of Goshen, active on many church and women’s boards, and taught Sunday school.  She was also active in Homemakers and 4-H.  Arlis worked at Piper Tax Service in Casselton during the tax season for 25 years.  In 1996, she purchased a longarm quilting machine and custom quilted 1000s of quilts for customers.  In her “spare” time, Arlis thoroughly enjoyed making more quilts for family and friends, and sewing or mending any garment that was brought to her doorstep.  In 2013, they moved to Casselton and she continued her quilting business.

She loved to travel around the United States and had the privilege to go overseas to visit many former Japanese IFYE chaperones they had hosted, went on a Mediterranean cruise, and also visited Germany to see an exchange family.  Arlis also enjoyed many summers in Medora volunteering, and the highlight one summer being a hot air balloon ride over the Badlands.

Arlis is survived by her loving husband of 62 ½ years, LeRoy; children, Malinda Lindstrom, Casselton, Marlin (Rhonda) Pfingsten, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, and Lanelle (Paul) Saxerud, Lisbon; sisters, Eileen (Lyle) Schultz, Diane (Eugene) Walton, and Valerie (Lonnie) Scharbow; special friend and sister-in-law, Monica Pfingsten; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She loved being a grandma to her eight grandchildren, Brandon Lindstrom, Erik (Miranda) Lindstrom, Kaylyn (Paul) Grommesh, Samantha (Tim) Conneran, Katrina (Hunter) Swendseid, Carson Pfingsten, Jordan Saxerud & Amanda Saxerud.  Her pride and joy were her great grandchildren, Eloise & Olivia Lindstrom, Colby, Nora & Baby (due July) Conneran, and Odin & Ava Grommesh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother Monwell, and son-in-law Peter Lindstrom.
