Aprill Kasin Obituary

The world lost a beautiful soul and Heaven gained one precious angel when Aprill Monique Kasin was welcomed into her mansion in Glory on November 12, 2021.  As spontaneous as she was known to be, her death came as quite a shock to those who knew and loved her.  Born on September 11, 1972, in Beach, ND, Aprill’s short 49 years were filled with wonderful adventures, great loves, and delicious food; mostly prepared by her.

Aprill is the daughter of the late Leslie Keith Moore and Reita Marie Moore.  She grew up with four siblings. First, a sister and two brothers.  Then 13 years later her little sister was born.  Her parents instilled discipline and structure in her with daily “to do” lists that consisted of household chores and projects.  This is where Aprill first developed her talents in negotiation as well as her love for cooking.  While being tasked with clearing the table after a meal, Aprill knew her skills were best used devising delicious feasts for her family rather than cleaning them up.  Quickly she bargained away the tasks of washing and scouring for the joys of the kitchen.  It is here where she perfected the delectable brown gravy, discovered the proper ratios of milk/cream to potatoes for the finest mashed potatoes, and got her first taste of the rich butterscotch that she loved so much in pies and on ice cream.  Her siblings, Aimee, Mark, Matt, and Alane were the gracious and somewhat demanding recipients of her cooking prowess.

Aprill had a zest for life and making things fun no matter the circumstance.  This famously led to a bloodied nose by the wrong side of backhoe while trying to collect eggs from a chicken coop without opening her eyes, racing her brothers to finish their chores, or speeding to get the vacuum put away before the whir of the engine drew silent.  She was a Sword Drill Champion, able to thumb through the Bible in a flash to find the correct passage, and memorized verses as well.  She found a love of card games through her Grandma Moore and taught her younger brothers how to play canasta just so she could play it at home.  And no one was quite the master of board games like Aprill Kasin.  Whether it be the game of Life, Monopoly (she had to be the banker), or Clue…all her siblings were amazed by how quickly she deduced it was Colonel Mustard, in the hallway, with the candlestick.

It was perhaps this drive to solve problems and hunger for knowledge that drew her to the medical field.  Aprill attended Liberty University for two years, but ultimately found a love for medicine as a medical coder.  She became fluent in doctor’s short hand, and again, would test her understanding to see if she could predict the ailment based on the symptoms.  This led to her consuming multiple tomes of medical research and her family affectionately dubbing her, Dr. Kasin.

Ever the romantic, it would make sense that Aprill would find her true love in a high school sweetheart, even if that joining would not happen for several years following their initial meeting.  Best friends first, Shannon Kasin, was the rock upon which Aprill found her strength and resilience for the many trials she faced.  Shannon brought a calm to the storm and a sense of humor for all situations that Aprill could not, nor wished to resist.  They were married on a beach in Hawaii (again quite the romantic) on October 12, 2002.  It was from this beach where her greatest adventure began.

Creating a life in the frigid plains of North Dakota, Aprill was ever willing to demonstrate for Shannon the proper ways to drive in the slick and snow covered roads.  Following an unfortunate snow plow freeze, one such demonstration ended with Aprill’s reddened face staring at Shannon’s bumper sitting in the snowbank a few feet from the car.  Shannon’s ever calm demeanor in that moment, and sense of humor regarding the blunder, forever cemented the love, trust, and peace Aprill found in his care.

Determined to multiply that love, Aprill brought two incredible children into this world.  The first, Rachel Alexis Kasin, was born on May 8, 2003.  There wasn’t a ruffled dress, beautiful bow, or fancy bloomers that Rachel wasn’t dressed in as she became the center of Aprill’s world.  Just a few short years later, Aprill gave birth to a baby boy, on her wedding anniversary no less (did I mention she was a romantic), on October 12, 2006.  Zachary Steven Kasin came into this world with a bang and Aprill never had a chance to catch her breath since!  Practically born with skates on his feet, Zach has been a force to be reckoned with both on and off the ice.  These two siblings share their mother’s smile, laugh, sharp wit, and tender heart.  Aprill’s memory will surely live on in these two incredible young adults.

Aprill was preceded in death by her grandparents and father Leslie Moore.  She is survived by her mother Reita Moore, husband Shannon Kasin, daughter Rachel Kasin, son Zachary Kasin, sister Aimee Hart, brother Mark Moore, brother Matthew Moore, and sister Alane Moore.  Aprill’s love for life and love for people was evident throughout her 49 years.  She loved all she met and found joy learning and caring for others.  Her absence will be felt by all who knew her, but the memories we have of her shall bring us joy for eternity.
