Alycia Gilbertson Obituary

Alycia Gilbertson, 73, of West Fargo, passed away, Sunday, June 14, 2020, at Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo after beating the coronavirus, but due to complications, her body couldn’t fully recover.

Alycia Ann Gilbertson was born in Duluth, MN on May 31^st, 1947 to Roy and Margaret Amundson. She was raised in Duluth, graduated from Central High School in 1965, attended Duluth Area Institute of Technology, and graduated as an LPN. Alycia married her high school sweetheart James (Jim aka Gilby) Gilbertson on August 10^th, 1968. The couple moved to Minot, ND, in 1970, and started a family. She worked as an LPN at St. Joseph’s Hospital (Unimed) in Minot on the OBGYN floor. Alycia went back to college and graduated in 1991 from Minot State University with a B.S. in nursing. As an RN, she continued to work with babies, especially those in the NICU.

They moved to West Fargo in 2004 to be closer to their kids. Alycia then worked for Workforce Safety & Insurance as a case manager and then as a Sanford Ask A Nurse, until retirement in 2013. In 2014, Alycia was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and in August 2019, she moved into Rosewood on Broadway’s Memory Care Unit where she received amazing care from everyone who worked with her.

Alycia was a fierce woman and was extremely strong for her petite size. She loved gardening, flowers, making floral arrangements, cake decorating, baking, singing and especially cooking and caring for her family and spending time with the grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Roy and Margaret Amundson.

Surviving are her husband: James Gilbertson; sons: Cory Gilbertson of Arlington, VA and Derik (Amy) Gilbertson of Sauk Rapids, MN; daughter: Krista Fodera of West Fargo; grandchildren: Benjamin Gilbertson, Catherine Gilbertson, Sydney Fodera and Gabriel Fodera; brothers: Steven (Jen) Amundson and Jim (Kelly) Amundson all of Duluth, MN.

Alycia’s family would like to thank the wonderful and loving staff at Rosewood on Broadway.
