Alvin "Al" Schumacher

Alvin Schumacher, 78, died on Friday, August 28, 2026. A service celebrating Alvin’s life will be held on Thursday, September 3 at 10 am at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND. Internment at Fargo National Cemetery, Harwood, ND and gathering at the West Fargo VFW immediately following ceremony.

Alvin was born September 1st, 1947, in Ashley, ND to John J. and Marianna (Goldade) Schumacher. He was raised on the family farm, attended rural school, and graduated from Zeeland High School.

Alvin married his childhood sweetheart Donna Schatz on August 30, 1969, in Zeeland, ND. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Vietnam war. After returning, he made his home and raised his family in West Fargo, ND. He began his career with Westgo and retired as a construction superintendent at Wanzek construction. He was a member of the VFW Club and American Legion. He enjoyed a second home at Osgood Golf Course with his golfing buddies. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, classic cars, and especially having his family around. He was always proud of his family and known for his honesty, integrity, and doing anything for those he loved and cared for. He touched countless lives, leaving each one better for having known him. His kindness and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Alvin‘s loving family includes his wife of 57 years Donna; children DeAnn (Mike) Hanson of Mandan, ND, Scott (Tammy) Schumacher of West Fargo, ND, Chris (Shantel) Schumacher of West Fargo, ND, and Ryan (Jessica) Schumacher of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren Skylar, Hope and Eden Hanson, Sam (Sienna), Abigail and Maggie Schumacher, Jon, Lydia, and Tessa Schumacher, and Hudson, Evangeline, and Emerson Schumacher; siblings Lucille Raile of Walhalla, ND, Rose (John) Hulm of Strausburg, ND, Leo (Mary Jane) Schumacher of Bismarck, ND, Marlene (Kevin) Staebner of West Fargo, ND, Alfred Schumacher of Zeeland, ND, Antone (Barb) Schumacher of Kindred, ND, Gilbert Schumacher of Leonard, ND and Sharon (Kevin) Paulson of West Fargo, ND; brothers-in-law Allen Bauman and Bob Feist, and numerous nieces and nephews. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, John J and Mary Schumacher; father and mother-in-law, Roy and Julia Schatz; his brother Richard, sisters Anna and Alice; in-laws Gideon Raile, Janice Schumacher, Debbie Schumacher, and Barbara Schatz; nephews Randy Schatz, Kevin Schumacher and Michael Hulm; and niece Karen Meidinger.

Visitation: Wednesday, September 2, 2026, from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM, at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.

Funeral Service: Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 10 AM, at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND, with visitation one hour before the service.

Interment: Fargo National Cemetery, Harwood, ND.
