Alon Wieland, age 86, of West Fargo, ND, died Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Sheyenne Crossings, West Fargo.
Alon Carl Wieland, the son of Gustav and Eldora (Koenig) Wieland, was born April 26, 1935, in Underwood, ND. The family moved to Bismarck, ND, and, later to Fargo. Alon graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1953. He then entered active duty with the US Army, assigned as a clerical worker and was transferred to the Army Reserve. While in the Reserves, he entered North Dakota State University, graduating in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
Alon married Janice Flem on July 24, 1959, in Fargo. They had four daughters, Susan Lee, Lori Ann, Shari Lynn and Lisa Rae.
On January 12, 1978, Alon married Merle Leben at Faith Lutheran Church in West Fargo.
Alon began his career working for the city of Fargo as a surveyor. Following that, he worked for many years at West Fargo Investment as a realtor. Alon, along with Merle, started the A. & M. Appraisal Company, where he worked as a real estate appraiser. He retired at the age of 73.
Alon was a Cass County Commissioner from 1983 to 2003, and during that time had served several years as Chair. He served as West Fargo District 13 Representative to the ND State Legislature for three terms, completing in 2014 at the age of 80. Alon was a member of the Red River Valley Fair Board for many years, serving as president for a time. Over the years, Alon was involved in many civic organizations and community activities.
Alon was a longtime golfer, with Maple River Golf Club being a favorite course where he once shot a hole-in-one. He enjoyed old automobiles and built up an impressive collection of scale-model cars.
He is survived by his wife Merle, West Fargo; four daughters, Susan (Bobby) Carrillo, Parachute, CO; Lori (John) Brokofsky, Burnsville, MN; Shari (Jeff Claassen) Neece, Moorhead, MN; Lisa (Michael) Crew, Castle Rock, CO; three step-sons Howard Leben, West Fargo; Wayne (Marva) Leben, Jamestown, ND; Joel Leben, Casselton, ND; grandchildren Shannon Stagner, Shaun VanDyke, Eric Brokofsky, Brian Brokofsky, Ian Crew, Tyler Leben, Kent Leben, Cameron Leben; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters Kathy Bazz, Littleton, CO, and Bobbi (Truman) King, Parker, CO.
Alon was preceded in death by his parents, and stepdaughter Rhonda Leben.
Visitation: 5 - 7 pm Friday, January 28, 2022, with a Prayer Service held at 7 pm, in Faith † Journey Lutheran Church, West Fargo
Funeral Service: 10:30 am Saturday, January 29, 2022, in Faith † Journey Lutheran Church, West Fargo
