Allen Brekkestran

   Allen L. “Al”  Brekkestran, 87, Fargo, ND passed away from dementia at Bethany on University on Friday, July 16, 2021.  He will be dearly missed by family and friends.

   Allen was born December 23, 1933 at Baxter, MN to Carl and Anne Brekkestran.  At the age of eight they moved to Starbuck, MN after he lost his mother to Tuberculosis.  His dad remarried and they moved to a farm in rural Starbuck.  Allen had three sisters: Edna, June, and Nancy.  Allen graduated from Starbuck High School in 1952 and joined the US Army in 1953.  He left the Army in 1956.  He never forgot the Army.  He started doing mechanical work and drove truck over the road for thirteen years.  He started driving truck for Amoco Oil in Sauk Centre, MN.  In 1980, the family moved to Fargo and he continued driving truck for Amoco Oil terminal in Moorhead, Amoco later changed its name to B.P. Oil.  While he was still in Osakis, MN he had Al’s Bait and Tackle; which he enjoyed, being a die hard fisherman.

   In 1958 Allen married Anne Ronnie and they had three children: Belinda, Gary, and Kevin and many wonderful grandchildren.  Allen and Anna were married for 62 years.  They loved their fishing and family trips.  The family loved the outdoors.  Allen loved card and board games along with staying busy.  Allen was a life member of Osakis VFW.

   Allen is survived by his wife Anna, children,Belinda Bretz and Gary (Shelly) Brekkestran, and grandchildren: Tyler (Kaylee), Branden (Ariel), Erik (Shelby), Daren (Beth), Maria (Dustin), Miranda (Kyle), and Malisha (Kyle).  Other survivors include his sister June Kirkland, niece Pam Stark, nephews: Paul Brandt, Brian Brandt, and Dewey Stark, along with many cousins, in-laws, and great-grandchildren: Lee, Salem, and Alistair.

   Allen was preceded in death by his parents, son Kevin, sisters Nancy Brandt and Edna Stark

Visitation: Thursday, July 22, 2021 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.

Memorial Service: Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 11:00 AM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.

Military Rites: Thursday, July 22, 2021 following the service at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.
