Royal Glenn Howard, age 84, Fargo, died August 14 at Sanford Medical Center.
Royal Howard was born on August 20, 1933 to Glenn and Elsie (Luthi) Howard in Grandin, ND. He was raised in Grandin and baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church. He graduated from Grandin High School in 1952 and graduated from the North Dakota School of Science in 1954.
Royal married Barbara Gowenlock on October 6, 1955, and they made their home in Fargo, where they raised their two children, Lori and Craig. Royal worked 36 years for the Cass County Road Department before retiring.
Royal had a great sense of humor, loved to kid around, and made everyone feel happy. Over the years, he enjoyed playing in a softball league, camping, fishing, golfing, and traveling. Royal was also an avid Twins, Vikings and Bison fan. He and Barbara took many cruises and road trips after retirement. In 1998, they started wintering in Mesa, Arizona. In 2008, they bought a home in Val Vista Village and lived there year round until his health declined, returning to Fargo in 2016 to be near their family.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his daughter, Lori (David) Kinskey, and his son, Craig (Michelle) Howard, both of Moorhead, MN. Six grandchildren: Stephanie (Christian) Farrand, Brandon Johnson, Nick Kinskey, Alex Kinskey, Dylan Howard, and Caroline Kinskey. Great-grandchildren: Carson Shultis, Dacoda Farrand, and Jordan Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Linda Sandborn, and a granddaughter, Jessica Howard.

Memorial Service: Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 10:30 AM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo following the service.
