Robert Rustad, 62, of West Fargo, died Saturday, September 22, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice.
Bob was born February 13, 1956, in Crookston, MN to Orville and Orella (Headberg) Rustad. He was raised in Crookston and educated, receiving his GED. Following his education, he enlisted in the US Air Force in 1973. He lived in Florida for a time, then returned to Fargo where he became known as “The Blind Man,” owning and operating Red River Drapery Services. Bob later worked for Brekke Custom Homes until illness forced his retirement in 2017. Bob married Michelle Hohnadel on June 20, 1997. The couple lived for 15 years on a farmstead near Kindred, ND, moving to West Fargo several years ago.
Bob enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing, and cooking. He loved animals, especially dogs. Bob also enjoyed having bonfires, or “Rustad fires” on the farm.
He will be fondly remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and for his favorite saying, “While you’re up.”
Surviving are his wife: Michelle; son: Bryan (Tracey) of St. Paul, MN; daughter: Jamie (Matt) Trosen of West Fargo; grandchildren: Brody Rustad, Lauren Reagles, Alex Reagles; great grand-child: Levi Reagles; siblings: Gary (Mickey) in Arizona, Ginger (Duane) Spear of Gentilly, MN, Cheryl (Ken) Pazdernik of Ada, MN, Dave (Deb) of St. Hilare, MN, Ken (Rose) of Fargo; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
Celebration of Life: 10 a.m. to noon, with Military Rites at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2018, VFW Post #7564 in West Fargo. Casual attire and Hawaiian shirts are encouraged.
