Maynard Schmidt, 70, of Mapleton, ND, died Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at Sanford Health in Fargo.
Maynard was born June 30, 1948, at St. John’s Hospital in Fargo, the son of Raymond and Margarette (Puhr) Schmidt. He was raised near Alice, ND and attended rural school. Following graduation from Buffalo High School, he joined the U.S. Army on August 8, 1966 and was discharged with the rank of Specialist 5 on August 7, 1969. Maynard and Carolyn Andersen were married on July 8, 1972, in Tacoma, WA. They made their home in Buffalo, ND before moving to Mapleton. Maynard worked at Steiger Tractor. Maynard attended NDSU graduating with a business degree and worked at NDSU as a facilities manager until his retirement.
Maynard enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, planting trees, making and sharing wine, feeding birds and especially the Pizza Ranch date with grandson, Dillan. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in West Fargo and the Alice Wildlife Club. He was currently serving on the board of directors of United Savings Credit Union and the Alice Community Cemetery.
Grateful for having shared in his life are a daughter: Michelle (Dave) Samuelson of Moorhead, MN; grandson: Dillan; mother-in-law: Anne Andersen of Tacoma, WA; brothers: David (Susan) Schmidt, Tim (Lori) Schmidt and Steve Schmidt all of Alice, ND; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Carolyn; son: Brian; sister and brother-in-law: Rosemary and Harold Johnson and a brother: Dennis.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 28th, 2019, at West Funeral Home in West Fargo, followed by a 7 p.m. Prayer Service
Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m. Tuesday January 29th, 2019, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in West Fargo
