Marlys R. Olson

Marlys Regina Olson, 79, Mapleton, ND died Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Essentia Hospital, Fargo.

Marlys was born December 12, in Page, ND to Roy and Regina (Siegert) Debing.  She completed grade school and high school at Page Public Schools and studied business at North Dakota State College of Science.  Marlys was hardworking and industrious, performing a number of jobs including office positions, dental assisting, bartending, and an owning partner operating G & G residential cleaning.  She retired at age 70 after 20-plus years in dry cleaning.  On July 26, 1997, she married Oscar D. Olson in a beautiful outdoor ceremony at their home in Mapleton, ND. 

Marlys was an avid gardener and she and Oscar won awards for their beautiful yard in Mapleton.  She also delighted in birdwatching.  She enjoyed sewing and was a talented seamstress.  She particularly loved sewing outfits for her grandchildren.  She had a passion for baking, and her sugar cookies were a perennial family favorite.  Her date cookies were legendary, according to her son-in-law.  She enjoyed spending time with family and was a gracious host with a keen sense of humor.  She responded to her brother’s frequent playful teasing as a good sport. This also served her well as a lifelong avid Minnesota Vikings fan. 

Marlys is survived by her husband Oscar; daughters, LaNelle (Anthony) Schaffhauser, Bemidji, MN, and Shelley (Ron) Goroski, West Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Heather (Jerod) Kurtz, Andrew (Claudia) Ettesvold, Michaela and Logan Goroski; great-grandchildren, Sheyenne, Cody, and Jordan Paul; great-great-grandson Jaxx Paul; brothers Gerald (Cleona) Debing, Douglas (Jane) Debing, and many beloved nieces and nephews.  Also, by her stepchildren Linda (Robert) Olson-Klutz, Nancy (Richard) Campbell, Dennis, Jeffery, Kevin, and Kim Olson, and precious step-grandchildren. 

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Larry, and sister-in-law Betty Debing. 

VISITATION:   5PM - 7PM Thursday, October 25, 2018 in West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND
