Lester A. Ockert, 81, West Fargo, ND died on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Vibra Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Lester “Les” Ockert was born April 22, 1937 to John and Mollie (Okert) Ockert on a farm near Sykeston, ND. He moved to Cathay, ND as a young boy where he attended school. He furthered his education at NDSU where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Agriculture. Lester was married to Lois Laube in 1980 and soon after adopted her 5 children (Nancy, Julie, Lisa, Rory & Rhonda). They resided on the family farm where he retired in 1983. They then moved to West Fargo, ND in 1990 to enjoy their children and grandchildren.
Lester liked to spend time with his family. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and wood working. He liked spending time at the family cabin and cutting wood with his children and grandchildren. Lester also enjoyed purchasing and fixing up old Chevy pickups. He was always finding ways to keep busy. Lester will be remembered for his soft spoken nature and light heartedness, his kind blue eyes and inviting smile.
Lester is survived by his wife, Lois; five children: Nancy Ockert (Fargo, ND), Julie Urich (Fargo, ND), Lisa (Keith) Paulson (Gully, MN), Rory (Tanya) Ockert (West Fargo, ND), and Rhonda (Bill) Berglund (West Fargo, ND); grandchildren: Zach Ockert (Heather Struble), Amber (Matt) Petznick, John (Megan) Ockert, Chris Urich, Ryan Berglund (Liz Williams), Josh Ockert, Ben Ockert, Sam Ockert (Peyton LePorte) and step grandchild; Jake Ripplinger; great-grandchildren: Presley Petznick, Parker Petznick, Bentley Berglund, and Cambria Ockert; along with many nieces and nephews including his special niece and nephew; Michael (Donella) Pease and Delores Pease.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Gene Ockert, Richard Ockert, Beatrice Pease, and Delores Ockert.
Visitation: Sunday, August 5, 2018 from 5:30 PM until 7 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo.
Funeral: Sunday, August 5, 2018 at 7 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo.
Burial: Monday, August 6, 2018 at 11 AM at Lakeview Cemetery, Cathay, ND.
