Kenneth Johnson Obituary

Kenneth Johnson, 95 of West Fargo, passed away at Sanford Medical Center Sunday Jan. 28, 2018.

Kenneth Erwin Johnson was born Jan. 23, 1923 in  Oakes, ND at the home of his aunt, Minnie Johnson, a local midwife and was the son of Mabel and Ernest Johnson. He graduated from Oakes high school at Oakes, ND and farmed with his father throughout his youth. After his marriage to Betty Munson on June 1, 1944 they extended the farm/ranch and also raised registered quarter horses. A born horseman, he was a charter member of both the Oakes Rough Riders Saddle Club and the Red River Harness Club. Ken and Betty loved to dance. Their courtship began while dancing until dawn at many area barn dances. Later they square danced regularly with a local dance club. After retiring from farming in 1977 the couple moved to West Fargo where Ken was employed with the ND Animal Health Services at the West Fargo Stock Yards and also worked part time at Whale of a Wash car wash.

During the golden years Betty and Ken enjoyed camping/fishing with their family as well as many buggy/trail rides with the Red River Harness Club. They especially enjoyed the Centennial Trail Ride from Fargo to Bismarck. Along with Betty, Ken was a cast member in the play, “Our Town” produced by the Oakes PTA, in 1962.
