Janice (Helton) Thielman

Janice Arlene Thielman, 81, Fargo, ND died on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019 at her home with Hospice of the RRV.

Janice Arlene Helton was born Dec. 16, 1937 in Seattle, WA to Leslie and Ruth (Hughes) Helton. She grew up in the Seattle area and attended school there. Janice worked for Boeing Aircraft for a short time before the family moved to West Fargo, ND. She worked at the Hi10 Steakhouse where she met the love of her life – John Thielman. She also worked at the West Fargo Dairy Queen and the West Fargo VFW. Janice and John were married on Sept. 7, 1973 in Page, ND. They lived in West Fargo until moving to Seaside, OR in 2005. They returned to Fargo in 2015.

Janice was a member of the West Fargo VFW Ladies Auxiliary and served as its president in 2001/2002. She enjoyed needle point, crocheting, tole painting, quilting and flower gardening. She was also a fantastic cook and taught ceramics.

She is survived by her husband, John; two children, Debra Berg of Breckenridge, MN and Stephen Gregory (Tresa) Kowats of Hood River, OR; five grandchildren, Craig (Jennifer Greenberg) Driscoll, Chad Driscoll, Stephanie (Paul) Lindemann, Jessica (Alex) Triplett and Stephen Kowats Jr.; 6 great grandchildren; and a sister, Paula Perry of Caldwell, ID.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Larry Helton.

Memorial Service: Friday, Oct. 25, 2019 at 6 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo with visitation one hour prior.

Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
