James Jerome Mitchell of Erie, ND passed away Thursday March 7th at Eventide in Fargo with his wife Darline by his side. He was born October 28, 1930 on a farm in Erie to parents, Paul and Clara (Larson) Mitchell.
James met the love of his life at a church youth convention in Portland, Oregon in 1954. In 1955, they married in Medford, OR. They lived their life on the farm in Erie, ND where they raised their family.
James loved his family, farming, golfing and sharing stories with friends over coffee. He was a fixture at his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sporting events, often snagging a front row seat. His twenty two great grandchildren were the lights of his life. He entertained them as much as they entertained him. James’ home away from home was in Mesa, Arizona where he and Darline wintered every year. They filled their retirement years golfing and spending time in the sunshine.
He will be missed by his village but will forever be in our hearts.
James is survived by his wife Darline, three children: Debra (Brad) Davis, Fargo; Robin (Gykala) Mitchell, Galesburg; Scott (Sandra) Mitchell, Erie, ND; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Steinbring, Warroad, MN; Matthew (Kathryn) Davis, Chaska, MN; Michael (Katherine) Mitchell, Galesburg, ND; Sara (Tyler) King, Casselton, ND; Jay (Trisha) Mitchell, Erie, ND; Jessica (Robert) Fyre, Argusville, ND; Trista (Evan) Lucore, Chanhassen, MN; Joel (Jennifer) Mitchell, Erie, ND; Jacklyn (Chase) Taylor, Gainesville, FL. Twenty-two great grandchildren with number twenty three on the way, two sisters Patricia (Larry) Mercer, Alexandria, IN; Paulette (Ron) Ruby, Alexandria, IN, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Brenda, sister Yvonne Hoganson and brother Merlin.
