Hazel Grooters, 82, Fargo, ND died on Saturday, July 7, 2018 surrounded by her family at Eventide of Fargo after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma.
Hazel M. Ussatis was born Aug. 8, 1935 in Lucca, ND to Carl and Emma (Witt) Ussatis. She grew up in Valley City, ND, graduated from high school in 1953 and received her teaching degree from Valley City State College. Hazel married Larry Grooters on Aug. 18, 1957 in Valley City. She taught in Grand Forks, ND, Casselton, ND and at the Maple Valley School in Buffalo, ND. They returned to Valley City in 1963 where she taught preschool at Little People’s Nursery School for 25 years. They moved to Fargo in December of 2012.
Hazel loved to cook and bake and was known for “Hazel’s buns.” She enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers and was active in her church. Her family was most important to her and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. They also enjoyed summers with family at Lake Ida near Alexandria, MN.
Hazel is survived by her husband, Larry “Buck” and three daughters, Kim (Roger) Lipetzky, Karla (Torrey) Callies, Kristi (Chris) Stuber; daughter-in-law, Robin Grooters; 8 grandchildren, Anna (Grant) Bowker, Lane Lipetzky, Ellie (Esley) Thorton and Brooke Grooters, Lukas (Alli) Davison, Cole Callies, Emma and Alexis Stuber; and a sister, Lucille Spiker.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Greg.

Visitation: Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.
Funeral: Thursday, July 12 at 11 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley City with visitation one hour prior.
Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
