Gordon Hudson Obituary

Gordon Dale Hudson entered eternal life with our Savior January 12, 2020 in Fargo, ND.

Gordon was born at home on a farm in rural Colfax, ND, on October 1, 1928.  He was the fifth son of William Henry Hudson and Thea Andina (Forness) Hudson.  He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Church in rural Colfax. They moved to a different location in rural Colfax, N.D., after a fire destroyed their home in the dirty thirties.  He attended school in Colfax and was active in basketball and 4-H.  After graduating from Colfax High School in 1946, he farmed with his father and older brothers until he was called to serve his country in the Korean War. Gordon received his basic training at Camp Roberts, Calif.  He served as Corporal in telephone communications (Signal Corps) with the Fifth Army, Third Division Artillery from March 31, 1951, to December 30, 1952, with 1 year overseas. He received an honorable discharge. He returned home and continued to farm with his family where they raised small grains, sunflowers, sugar beets and Black Angus cattle.

Gordon was President and served on the Board of Directors at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Colfax and Farmers Union (Cenex), Galchutt, ND.  He was a member of the Eagles Club in Wahpeton, ND, Sons of Norway Fargo, and the Elks in Wahpeton until it was dissolved. He is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Barney, ND, and served for 10 years on the Barney VFW Honor Guard.

He was united in marriage to Eva Leanna James, June 26, 1964 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton. Gordon continued to farm West of Colfax, living on the home farm raising small grains, cattle and sugar beets. In July 1990 he semi-retired and moved to Fargo where he joined Olivet Lutheran Church. He worked part-time at Federal Beef in West Fargo in the supply department equipping employees for four years.  He also worked at West Acres Cinema 14 in maintenance for 6 years and was co-owner of Eagle Optical for 6 years. Gordon was very patriotic and loved the country he served.  He was a quiet and gentle man and loved to read.  He was proud of his home in Fargo and loved the outdoors, keeping a neat and well, groomed yard.  He could be seen outdoors in the summer on the backyard patio enjoying his family and friends. He spent the winter of 2016 and 6 weeks of 2019 in Lake Havasu City, AZ.

Gordon is survived by his wife Leanna, and three sons, William and Jonathan of Fargo, Christopher (Amanda), grandchildren, James, Everett and Alayna, of Apple Valley, MN, and sister-in-law Arline (Clair) of Fargo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers John, James, Donald and Clair; two sisters-in-law Adeline (John) and Orlin (Donald).
