George W. Buchholz was called home by the Lord on March 2, 2019.
George William Buchholz Jr. was born on March 12, 1926, in Durbin ND, to George Albert Buchholz, Sr. and Tillie (Zimprich) Buchholz. He attended school at Central Cass Public School in Casselton, ND and graduated in 1944. After graduation he worked on various farms in the area for several years. In 1952 he was employed by Branick Manufacturing in Fargo, as an assemblyman, where he worked until his retirement in 1991. During his years with Branick, and for a few years following his retirement, he also continued farming on the family farm. He married Louise Lyngstad on November 15, 1952. George and Louise had two sons and a daughter together.
George served as the treasurer of the retirees Teamsters Local 144. George enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his later years, he spent every weekend with his family in their homes or at the lake. He loved old westerns, and Louie L’Amour books. He loved watching sports with his kids and rooting for his favorite players and teams.
George is survived by his three children, Duane (Genise) Buchholz, Fargo, Pam Hayes, Brainerd, and David (Valerie) Buchholz, Fargo; five grandchildren, Brian and Ashley Buchholz, Fargo, Shannon (Brent) Vail, Gilbert, AZ, Jordan Hayes, Brainerd, MN, Jasmine Hayes (Andrew Bervig), Brainerd, MN. Four great grandchildren, Aria and Jaxton Vail and Aiden and Zaniyah Bervig; nieces Peggy (Lee) Anderson, Bowbells, ND, Jane (John) Olson, Fargo, ND and nephew Chuck (Loree) Morse, Fort Collins, CO.
George was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mable Morse, his grandson, Brandon Buchholz, his former wife, Louise Buchholz and special friend, Elaine Johnson.
The family would like to thank Hospice and the staff of Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth for the outstanding and compassionate care he received during his final weeks.
The funeral service will be held Friday, March 8, 2019 at 11 AM at West Funeral Home in West Fargo with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
