Duane Moderow

Duane Moderow, 86, Fargo, ND died on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018 at Essentia Health, Fargo.

Duane Harold Moderow was born Aug. 30, 1931 in Fargo to Ewald and Dorothy (Hans) Moderow. He grew up at Durbin, ND and attended school in Casselton, ND. In 1943, the family moved to Buffalo, ND where he graduated from high school in 1949. Duane attended college for a short time before enlisting in the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Duane married Mary Ann Berg on Nov. 17, 1956 at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo. They made their home near Buffalo where they raised three children and farmed for many years. They moved to Edgewood Vista in Fargo in 2015.

Duane was active at First Presbyterian Church in Buffalo singing in the choir and serving in several capacities, later joining Westminster Presbyterian in Casselton. Duane also served as clerk and treasurer for the Buffalo Township and was active in the Buffalo American Legion. In October of 2016, he was privileged to go on the WDAY Honor Flight with his son.

Duane and Mary Ann enjoyed traveling. They took their kids and grandkids on many adventures over the years. They spent winters in Mesa, AZ for 30 years and enjoyed summers at Long Lake. He loved to be active, enjoyed swimming, biking, and just stay busy. Duane absolutely adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to spend time with them whether it be at a school play, sporting event, concert, birthday party and baptism.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; three children, Doug (Diane) Moderow, Casselton, Pam (Mike) Nelson, Casselton and Brenda (Jeff) Halverson, Littleton, CO; 7 grandchildren, Skyler and Shelby Moderow, Amanda (Jim) Schauer, Rachel (Eric) Hansen, Kayla Nelson, Blair and Nicole Halverson; four great grandchildren, Claire and Etta Schauer, Avery and Harper Hansen; and a sister, Ardell (Joseph) Long, Billings, MT.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Presbyterian Churches in Buffalo or Casselton.

Visitation: Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018 from 2 to 4 PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Casselton.

Funeral: Monday at 11 AM at Westminster Presbyterian Church with visitation one hour prior.

Burial: Buffalo Cemetery.
