DuWayne L. Engness, 89, West Fargo, ND passed away Friday, July 19, 2019 at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
DuWayne LeRoy Engness was born on July 16, 1930 in Fargo, ND to Albin E. and Agnes J. (Akre) Engness. He grew up in Fargo and attended Oak Grove High School. On August 24, 1948, DuWayne entered the US Army until he was discharged on November 4, 1951. On November 19, 1955, DuWayne married Vernette Renner in Fargo. DuWayne and Vernette worked and operated the first Mexican restaurant in North Dakota, the Taco Shop of Fargo and also Interstate Dragways and Engness Fabricators. During his time of retirement he enjoyed his three days a week of Bingo at the Senior Center with his friends.
One of DuWayne’s great joys was NHRA Drag Racing all over the USA with his friends and family. He was inducted into the NHRA High and Mighty Hall of Fame in 2011.
He is survived by his two children, DuWayne “Sparky”, West Fargo and Marie Tuttle, Richfield, MN; three grandchildren, Dr. Austin Tuttle, Alesha Engness and Issak Engness; sisters, Karen Carney, of Moorhead, MN, and Aldamae “Aldie” (Bill) Kelsven, of Pelican Rapids, MN, one brother Omar “Jerry” Engness, of Bryceville, FL along with several nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be made to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Memorial Service: Friday, August 16, 2019 at 11 AM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Burial: Will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Fargo at a later time.
