Donna Marie (Schrank) Stewart

Donna M. Stewart died peacefully at Touchmark on September 8, 2019, in Fargo, ND at the age of 86.  Donna Stewart was born on September 15, 1932 in Grafton, ND to Herbert and Myrtle (Jensen) Schrank. She graduated from Grafton High School in 1951. She married James D. Stewart, her school sweetheart and together they enjoyed 68 happy years of marriage.  Donna was a devoted wife and mother who always put family first.  Donna began working at Dakota Central Rural Telephone Coop in Carrington, North Dakota in 1966 and continued to work there for thirty years.  After retirement, Donna and Jim moved to Fargo and spent their summers at their home on Cotton Lake.

Donna enjoyed gardening, traveling, collecting antiques and birdwatching. Spotting eagles, hummingbirds, loons and trumpeter swans was a daily activity during summers.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren at their family lake home.  She served as Secretary for the Cotton Lake Association for many years and also served on the board of directors of Friends of Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge.  She was an active and dedicated member of Grace Lutheran Church in Carrington and later Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Fargo.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband James D. Stewart and is survived by her children, Cheri (Kevin) Flanagan, Diane (Elwyn) Krogh, James H. (Jan Ulferts) Stewart, and Debra (Neal) Sundet, all of Fargo; her sister Ethel Phelps, Wilmington, North Carolina; eleven grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Donna’s funeral is scheduled for 11:00 Friday, September 13, 2019 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Fargo, with a reception to follow at the church.  Pastor Chris Wadvogel will officiate the ceremony.
