Carol J. Knudson

Carol Jean Knudson, 84, longtime Horace, ND resident, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 6, 2019, under Ethos Hospice care at Sheyenne Crossings, West Fargo, ND, her home for the past 3 years.

Carol Jean Hoff was born the only child of Francis “Frank” and Avis (Evenson) Hoff in Fargo, ND on April 8, 1935.  She was baptized, attended Sunday School and was confirmed at Horace Lutheran Church, where she was a lifelong member.    She attended a Warren Township elementary school near their rural Fargo farm and graduated from Horace High School in 1953.  After graduation from high school, Carol was employed by Moody’s Department Store in Fargo. 

On November 12, 1955, Carol became the bride of Ralph O. Knudson.  They married at Horace Lutheran Church, where they both were members.  The newlyweds moved into a home in Horace that was being remodeled for someone else, but because of illness, was not able to occupy.  This would be their home for 61 years, until her beloved husband Ralph passed away, September 20, 2016.

Carol worked several years at Trom’s Fairway Store in Horace and did residential house cleaning together with a friend.

Carol and Ralph were inseparable.  They volunteered their time serving friends and neighbors who needed assistance and transportation.  Several were able to remain in their homes because of their aid.  After Ralph’s death, Carol moved into a beautiful apartment in Sheyenne Crossings, West Fargo, where she has resided comfortably until her recent illness.

Carol and Ralph, with not having children of their own, were generous with gifts for family and friends.  They enjoyed attending social events, neighborhood garage sales, scrapbooks/photo albums, and visiting with family and friends.  Carol received great pleasure sending beautiful greeting cards for all occasions to raise the spirits of others. She was a member of WELCA and was known as the “Sunshine Card Lady”.  Carol was very faithful to stay in touch with family and friends with cards, letters and by telephone. 

Carol is survived by her brother-in-law George “Lowell” Knudson, Casselton, ND, and her caregivers, Robert and Marilyn Bensen of Horace.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, who are left to mourn the passing of this kind, caring, wonderful lady.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Ralph, sisters-in-law Patricia Knudson, Doris Loberg, and brother-in-law Robert Loberg.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Sheyenne Crossings and Ethos Hospice for their excellent care and comfort provided Carol these last few weeks.

Funeral:  11 am Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Horace Lutheran Church, Horace, ND, with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial:  Horace Lutheran Cemetery.
