- About Us
Bruce Thompson, 83, West Fargo, ND died on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019 at his home with Hospice of the RRV.
Bruce A. Thompson was born on January 3, 1936 in Pelican Rapids, MN, to Orville and Gladys (Weiss) Thompson. He grew up mostly in Page, ND and graduated from high school there. Bruce attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, and Dakota Business College in Fargo before serving two years in the US Army at the request of the United States Government.
After his Army service, Bruce returned to Fargo and began working at Dakota Electric Supply Company, where he worked for 36 years until he retired in 1998. He took advantage of retirement to indulge in his love of golf, and eventually became the oldest playing member at Maple River Golf Club. However, his consummate work ethic sent him into part time work for West Funeral Home in West Fargo, where he assisted at funerals for 14 years.
During the 50+ years that he lived in West Fargo, Bruce was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church; he was especially involved with the Kingsmen there, providing service to their church and community. He was also well known and loved by several dogs as the ultimate soft touch cookie-giver.
Bruce married Helen M. Wales on July 24,1965 and they enjoyed 54 years of loving and respectful marriage until his death on August 22, 2019. They provided an excellent example to their three children. He is survived by Helen, and their two sons—Bradley (Diana), of Artesia, NM, and Corey (Missy), of East Grand Forks, MN—and daughter Randi (David Willett), of Albuquerque, NM; and three grandsons—Nicholas, Noah, and Nathaniel.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dr. Stanley Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley or Faith Lutheran Church.
