Betty Lindquist, 91, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 in Fargo, ND, with her husband at her side. She was born April 11, 1928 to Erwin and Katharine Hertz and spent her childhood in St. Cloud, MN, graduating from St. Cloud Technical High School in 1946.
Betty attended St. Olaf College in Northfield and later the University of Minnesota graduating in 1950 with a BA in English. Her early career included library positions at the University of California-Berkeley and the Mayo Clinic Medical Library, Rochester. Upon returning to Minneapolis, she met the love of her life, John Lindquist. They were married on July 10, 1954 in St. Cloud, MN. Betty and John made their home in Bloomington where they raised three children: Robert, Susan, and Jean. In 1971 the family moved to the Park Rapids area of northern Minnesota where Betty was employed in the counseling office at Park Rapids High School and together, with John, managed King’s Cottages Resort in Park Rapids.
In 1989 Betty and John retired to Loon Lake, south of Nevis, MN. They enjoyed 25 years there, surrounded by the woods and wonderful neighbors. Their home is fondly remembered as “Loon Lake Lodge” - a wonderful gathering place for their children’s families.
Betty loved the outdoors. She created beautiful flower gardens and from them beautiful wreaths that she sold and shared. She was also a gifted musician who studied and performed both voice and viola.
Betty’s final years were spent at the Willow Lane Memory Care Unit at Bethany Retirement Living, in Fargo, ND, where her loving personality remained, and she continued to be a positive influence in many lives.
Betty will be remembered for her love and devotion to her Christian faith, her family, and her friends. Her kindness was also extended to every person that she met, whether they were her neighbor or someone she had just met in the grocery store; it made no difference.
Betty is survived by her husband of 65 years, John Lindquist, children Robert (Rebecca) Lindquist, Duluth, MN, Susan (Jeffery) Mueller, Fargo, ND, Jean (Warren) Olfert, West Fargo, ND, sister Mary Kaye Sauter, Marysville, WA, grandchildren Sarah (Richard) Prigge, Jenna Mueller, Dan (Amanda) Lindquist, Katharine Lindquist, John (Delinda) Mueller, David (Maggie) Mueller, great grandchildren Will, Isabel, Luke, Jake, Joscelyn and Shepard,
