Alvin H Zaeske

Alvin Herman Zaeske, 95, passed away on October 9, 2017, while residing at Bethany Retirement Living, South University Drive, Fargo, ND.

He was born on September 18, 1922 at Leonard, ND, to William and Gertrude (Pietsch) Zaeske, joining older siblings, Walter (Evelyn) Zaeske and Elda (Elroy) Dittberner. Later, he was presented with another brother, Gordon Zaeske.

Alvin attended Watson Township Schools until the 8th grade. He left school to help on the family farm.

He married Josephine Becvar on March 4, 1944.  He worked as a farmer and a truck driver for Schultz and Lindsey while he and Josephine started their family. Their son, David William, was born in 1952; and their daughter, Julie Ann, followed in 1953.

Alvin farmed until he joined the Agricultural Engineering Department at NDSU as a technician, tending to test plots. He returned to farming his land in 1973 and retired on his farm, with his wife, in 1986.

Alvin enjoyed spending time enjoying nature and the farm. Alvin loved farming and was devoted to his profession. He was a member of Bonanzaville, the ND Historical Society, and St. Peter Lutheran Church, Leonard, ND.

Alvin is survived by his son, David (Janet) Zaeske, Fargo, ND; his daughter, Julie (Stephen) Norman, Lummi Island, WA; his grandchildren, Katelin Zaeske, Lebanon, New Hampshire; Haakon (Lena) Zaeske, Bozeman, MT; Bryce (Kelsey) Weaver, Brooklyn, NY; Jillian (Travis) Russell, Oklahoma City, OK; and Halley Norman, St. Paul, MN; as well as 4 grandchildren: Theo and Gwen Russell, W. Brexson Weaver, and Hazel Zaeske. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Alice Becvar Thompson, San Luis Obispo, CA. Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine, his parents, and his siblings.

Final arrangements are under the careful direction of West Funeral Home, West Fargo. Memorials may be sent to Watson Cemetery, Leonard, ND 58052.
