Vivian (Syverson) Johnson

Vivian Mae Johnson, age 88, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018 at her home in West Fargo, ND with her loving family by her side. 

Vivian was born on January 16, 1929 in Courtney, ND.  Her parents were Harry and Inez (Crawford) Syverson.  Her ancestry was a mixture of Scottish, Norwegian, German, Irish and English.  She grew up in Courtney and graduated from Courtney High School where she was chosen as the outstanding member of her senior class based on “scholastic ability, personality, dependability, and other worthwhile characteristics.”  She lived much of her life in Enderlin, ND.  In 1948, Vivian was married to Donald Carey.  On December 16, 1961, Vivian married Jerroll (Jerry) Johnson.  They recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.  She was an excellent homemaker and loving mother to five children.

Vivian was a member of the Enderlin Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in the lady’s church circle and church choir.  She was an avid bowler and golfer and enjoyed reading novels.  A talented artist, she created many oil paintings throughout her lifetime.  She was a founding member of the Sweet Adelines and was a great tenor!  She was also involved with the V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary. 

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Johnson; son Steve Carey (Carol), Bellvue, CO; daughter Linda Larson (Mike), Fargo, ND; daughter Brenda Ekre (Blair), Brooklyn Park, MN as well as by grandchildren Hailey Ekre, Lauryn Ekre, Amber Christl, Taylor Stack, and Drew Larson and three great grandchildren. 

Vivian was preceded in death by Donald Carey, Daniel Carey, Michael Carey, her parents, and several siblings.

Visitation: Monday, January 8, 2018 from 5 -7 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo.

Funeral: Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 11 AM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo with visitation one hour prior to the service.
