Joseph Marek

Joseph E. Marek, 96, Casselton, ND died on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017 at Villa Maria in Fargo, ND.

Joseph Emil Marek was born on March 26, 1921 at Durbin, ND to Anton and Aloisia (Lux) Marek Sr.  He attended country school and began working on the family farm. He farmed with his brothers for several years before working for Grant Mattson at the John Deere Dealership in Casselton. He painted equipment and did some mechanical work. He continued there when RDO took over the implement business.  Joe moved into Casselton in 2013. 

Over the years, Joe enjoyed snowmobiling, restoring JD tractors, music of Boxcar Willie. He also cherished the annual Carl Marek Memorial Threshing Bees and participating in area tractor pulls.

Joe is survived by two brothers, Edward (Shirley) of Casselton and Leo of Pinehurst, ID along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents;  siblings, Marie (Gust) Glatzl, Carl Marek, Louise (Emil) Heger, Anton (Florence) Marek, Frank (Ida) Marek, Hedwig Johnson, Hermine (Steve) Steiner, Florence Marek, Margaret (Willis) Wahowske, Christine (Ward) Christensen, and Raymond Marek; and sister-in-law, Hazel Marek.

The family wished to thank the staff and caregivers at Villa Maria.

Funeral: Saturday at 10 AM at West Funeral Home Chapel, Casselton with visitation one hour prior.

Burial: St. Leo’s Cemetery, Casselton.
