Irvin Dittus, 90, Fargo, ND, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 at Bethany on University in Fargo.
He was born to Reinhold and Emma (Heinle) on October 2, 1926 on the family farm near Glen Ullin, ND. He attended a rural grade school and graduated from Hebron High School. He assisted on the farm until he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945. In the Navy, he was a member of the occupation force after World War II. His tour of duty took him to the Pacific area where he was in China, Japan and the South Pacific Islands. After his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1948, he attended Interstate Business School in Fargo. He worked as an accountant. He married his sweetheart, Evangeline Rudel on November 19, 1950 in Fessenden, ND.
They moved to Harvey in 1951 where he was employed as a parts-man with Roble Chevrolet which later became Ripplinger Motors. He was promoted to bookkeeper and retired in 1991. Irvin and Eva moved to Fargo in October of 2004 where they lived in Stonebridge apartments and made many friends as well as restoring many old friendships. In October of 2014, they became residents of Bethany on University.
Irvin was active in the Harvey United Methodist Church, Harvey Eagles, VFW and Harvey Golf Course. Some of his biggest pleasures were spending time with his grandchildren and his six great grandchildren. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee with friends or a round of golf. He attended Atonement Lutheran Church in Fargo. Sunday evening family pizza night at Ole & Lena’s Pizza was a highlight of each week.
He is survived by Eva, his wife of 66 years, daughter Bonnie Dittus of Moorhead, son Ron ( Beth) West Fargo and four grandchildren, Cari (Corey) Chinn, Christianna (Kyle) Shelhamer, Jennifer (Christopher) Chinn, all of Colorado Springs and a grandson Kenneth (Jill) of Katie, Texas; great grandchildren Wiley, Bridger, Eve and Ella Chinn and Logan and Nolan Dittus; sister Deloris Ault.
Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2017 with a 6 p.m. Time of Reflection at the West Funeral Home in West Fargo.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday at Atonement Lutheran Church in Fargo.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Red River and all the nurses and CNA’s at Bethany on University for their loving care of Irv.
