Gary Hample

Gary W. Hample, 68 of West Fargo, passed away on January 25, 2018 at Essentia Health in Fargo.

Gary was born on December 5, 1949 in Fargo, ND to Ed and Freda (Lee) Hample.  He grew up in West Fargo and graduated from high school in 1967.  He served in the US Air Force in Japan and Vietnam from 1969 to 1973.  On December 2, 1972 he married Barb Lund in Kindred, ND.  Gary attended NDSCS in Wahpeton to become an electrician.  He worked locally for several years then traveled to different locations for work for about 10 years.  He most recently was employed with the VA Hospital in Fargo for 20 years, retiring in 2010. 

Gary was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing and spending time at the lake cabin he built with his friends.  He was a member of the IBEW, West Fargo VFW, Fargo American Legion and St. Andrew Lutheran Church in West Fargo.

He will be remembered as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary is survived by his wife, Barb of West Fargo, ND; daughter, Ellen (Jared) Hample of Utica, KY; son, Jacob (Brenda) Hample of West Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Harley and Aubree; sisters, Linda Hamm of St. Louis Park, MN and Sara (Eric) Rogne of West Fargo, ND and several nieces and nephews.

Per Gary’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date.
