Elsie Reed

Elsie C. Reed, 78, Fargo, ND died on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Moorhead Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Moorhead, MN.

Elsie Charline Hards was born on July 4, 1939 in Holton, Kansas to Charles and Harriet (Griswald) Hards.  She grew up and attended school in Holton until she moved in and started taking care of her brother Raymond.  She moved to Vermont and then to Long Island, NY with her mother.  When she moved to Topeka, KS and was living with her aunt, she met Gerald Reed.  The couple was married in Lyndon, KS in 1962.  The couple moved to Laredo then to Dallas, TX while Gerald was in the service.  In 1965, they moved to Fargo where they lived the rest of their years.  Throughout Elsie’s career she was a housekeeper at various hotels.  When they moved to Fargo she went to work at the Holiday Inn.  She retired in the mid 1990’s.

Elsie loved spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Elsie is survived by her husband Gerald, of Fargo, daughter Melissa Merlin, of West Fargo, grandchildren: Samantha (Ryan) Habedank, of West Fargo, Helen (Brandon) Sevik, of Fargo, and Bobby Arnold, of Grafton, great-grandchildren Nevaeh and Addilynn Habedank.  Other survivors include her sister-in-law Larine Hards, of Hercules, CA and several nieces and nephews.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Tammy Reed, brothers: Charles, Raymond, and Harvey, sister Dorothy Hayman and son-in-law Robert Merlin.                                              

Memorial Service: Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 10 AM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior to the service.
