Dwayne Lavence Kimbrough, 55, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 surrounded by his wife, Tami, his daughter, Kierah, and two of his big brothers, Clifford Jr. and Greg. His final moments were filled with faith, love, and prayer.

Dwayne was born on February 14, 1962 in Canton, OH, where he was raised by his parents Clifford Sr. and Frances Kimbrough. Although he was the youngest of seven children, as he was growing up he quickly began to surpass his older brothers and sisters in height. They liked to remind Dwayne that he being the spoiled baby of the family caused him to be so much bigger than everyone else. Aside from being a fun to be around, vibrant, hard-working young man, Dwayne was known for being a Canton basketball star—“Dr. K” as they called him in his many newspaper articles. He graduated from Timken High School in 1980 and went on to play basketball at Minnesota State University, Mankato. From there, he continued his basketball career at Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls, MN. Dwayne moved to Fargo, ND in September of 1985 where he has since resided. On December 26, 1985 his first son, “Little Dwayne” was born. Shortly after, on March 18, 1987 his first and only daughter, Kierah, was born. Finally, his youngest son Miles was brought into the world on February 1, 2000. Nothing made Dwayne more proud than being a father and watching his children succeed. He beamed every time he was able to talk about his children and made sure everyone around him knew just how honored he was to be their dad.

Dwayne was known for many things. He was Tami’s human navigator, thanks to his many years working for UPS. He was an accomplished athlete, incredible cook, and quite possibly the best (and most long-winded) story teller of all time. He always harbored a love and loyalty to his home town of Canton, the “Hall of Fame City.” He made sure to go back home whenever he got a chance to visit his many friends and family, and of course, eat at Church’s Chicken. His fun-loving sense of humor and kind-hearted personality were an absolute joy for everyone to be around and he had an infectious laugh that could light up even the darkest room. He was most proud, however, to bear the titles of a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a caring brother, and loyal friend. Dwayne had many highlights in his life, but one of his best was nearly one year ago when he got to marry his long-time love and best friend, Tami, in front of his family and friends in Canton.

Dwayne is survived by his wife, Tami; children: Dwayne Kimbrough, Jamestown, ND; Kierah (Tony) Kimbrough-Jenson, Badger, MN; Miles Kimbrough, Fargo, ND; stepchildren: Jarid (Portia) Henricks, New York Mills, MN; Natasha Henricks, Fargo, ND; siblings: Clifford (Loretta) Kimbrough Jr., Richmond Heights, OH; Yvonne (Bernard) Prince; Greg (Brenda) Kimbrough; Van Kimbrough; Bridget (Victor) Blair; Yolanda (Lonnie) Everett, all of Canton, OH; five beautiful grandchildren: Janiya Jenson and future Baby Jenson (due July 7, 2017); Kenzie, Jackson, and Aubrey Henricks; as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Dwayne is preceded in death by his parents Clifford L. and Frances (Vance) Kimbrough Sr. He will be greatly missed by many.

Going Home to Jesus Celebration:  3:00 p.m.  Friday, June 16, 2017 at  West Funeral Home, 321 Sheyenne Street, West Fargo, ND 58078.
