Cory Lee Hjelden

Cory L. Hjelden, 47, West Fargo, ND died on Monday, December 18, 2017 at home after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Cory Lee Hjelden was born March 23, 1970 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, ND to Rodney and Diane (Sylling) Hjelden.  He grew up and attended school in Surrey, ND.  Cory loved sports and participated in football, basketball, and baseball.  He played baseball with the Sawyer/Surrey Blue Sox and the team made it to the championship round in 1987 and 1988. Cory graduated from Minot State University in 1994 with a major in Business Administration.  He moved to Fargo, ND and worked as an assistant store manager for Sun Mart Foods until 2000.  Cory joined G&K Services in 2000 as a route driver and worked his way up to manager of the Fargo division.  In 1996 Cory married Jane Grasl.  They were blessed with children, Jillian, age 17 and Riley, age 15 and made their home in Fargo and West Fargo.

Nothing was more important to Cory than spending time with friends and family.  He enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing, traveling, camping at Meadow Lake, fantasy football, and the Minnesota Vikings.

Cory is survived by his wife and children, parents Rod and Diane, brothers Chad and Mike (Karyn), and his nieces and nephews: Haley, Hadley, Tre, Revi, and Elliot.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Melvin and Olga Hjelden and Alvin and Orella Sylling.

Visitation: Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at the West Funeral Home, West Fargo.

Funeral: Friday, December 22, 2017 at 9:30 AM at Faith Lutheran Church, West Fargo with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial: Friday, December 22, 2017 at 3 PM at ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
