Charles “Bill” Sheldon, 87, of Buffalo, ND, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo.

Charles, Wm. “Bill” Sheldon was born November 7, 1929, to Charles T. and Florence (Medland) Sheldon in Fargo.  He attended school in Buffalo, ND, graduating from high school there in 1949.  During grade school, he had rheumatic fever and polio and had to learn to walk again.

Bill joined the Air Force in 1951. During service to his country, he worked with atomic energy in the mountains of New Mexico and also served two years as a military policeman in Germany. He was awarded the Good Conduct medal and was honorably discharged in 1955.  After discharge, he farmed with his Dad, who passed away in 1963.  Bill married Marlene Schaefer on June 9, 1957.  They spent all sixty years of marriage on the farm and were blessed with two children,  Jodi ReNae and Daniel William.

He loved his family, the farm and animals, especially horses.  Bill enjoyed watching Seinfeld, MSNBC, the History Channel, old time gospel music on TV, and loved German polka music.  He was an avid reader and especially liked World War II stories, Louis L’Amour westerns, playing pinochle or poker, always having a stash of quarters ready to play.

Bill was a member of Buffalo Lutheran Church, a sixty-one year member of the Easton-Yanish Post 10 American Legion in Buffalo,  a longtime member of the Wheatland Rod and Gun Club, Buffalo Wildlife Club, VFW and the DAV. He enjoyed attending Air Force reunions in various places in the U.S.  Bill and Marlene were members of a neighborhood whist club for forty years.

He is survived by his wife:  Marlene;  daughter:  Jodi (Jeff) Askew, grandson, Josh (Carley) and granddaughter, Jamie;  son:  Dan (Kris);  sisters:  Jane (Dave) Knecht and Joanne (Lloyd) Reynolds and their families.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents:  Charles and Florence.

His family would like to thank the VA and Good Samaritan Center Home Health for the excellent care during his last years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Easton-Yanish Post 10 American Legion in Buffalo for the adding of names and up keep of the Veteran’s Memorial there.

Visitation:  5 to 7 p.m. ,  followed by a 7 p.m. Prayer Service  Thursday, November 9, 2017, at the West Funeral Home in West Fargo.

Funeral:  2 p.m.  Friday, November 10, 2017, at Buffalo Lutheran Church in Buffalo, ND.

Burial:  Wheatland Cemetery, Wheatland, ND.
