Betty Jean Steil Jilek

Betty J. Steil Jilek, 89, of Fargo, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Bethany on University in Fargo.

Betty J. Steil Jilek was born April 16, 1928, daughter of Frank and Alvina (Glizinski) Porwoll.  She was raised in St. Cloud and attended St. John Cantius School.  Betty was employed as a housekeeper, married and gave birth to a daughter, Kathy Stoeckel.  She later married Harold Steil and a daughter, Paula Henry was born.  After Harold’s death, Betty married John Jilek.  The couple moved to Fargo in 2014 to be near family.

Betty’s faith was first in her life followed by the love of her husband and best friend, John;  then her daughters; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and fishing.  She will be fondly remembered for a great sense of humor, love of playing 500, dice, gambling, decorating and fashions.  Betty had been a Girl Scout leader and a member of various church groups.

Grateful for having shared in her life are husband: John; daughters:  Kathy Stoeckel, Alexandria, MN,  Paula (Robert Kohler) Henry of West Fargo;  grandchildren:  Ed,  Giles,  Madeleine,  Kim,  Kris and Mike;  several great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law:  Betty Porwoll; several nieces and nephews and the staff and residents of Bethany Retirement Living on University.

Betty was preceded in death by parents and husband:  Harold Steil.
