Arla M. Carlson, 88, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Page, ND, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at Eventide in Fargo.
Arla Mae Carlson was born January 6, 1930 on a farm near Cooperstown, ND, to Henry and Antoinette (Brendal) Larson. She was raised there and graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1948. Arla attended Mayville Teachers College and taught in rural schools in Griggs County, ND. Arla and Merland Carlson were married on September 26, 1953 in Webster, S.D. They lived in various communities before moving to Page in 1965. She was employed at the Page School, drove special needs bus for a time and was the janitor at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Arla and Merland moved to Fargo in 2001 where she worked at Southeast Human Services and for many years as a demonstrator at Sam’s Club.
She was a longtime member, janitor and a part of a circle at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Page and later became a member at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fargo. She enjoyed spending a few summers at Cotton Lake with her family, traveling, playing cards, gardening, knitting, quilting, playing piano by ear, coffee with friends, attending Hostfest in Minot and dancing with Merland.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her children: Tim (LeeAnn) Carlson of Grand Forks; Valorie (Mark) Christensen of Raleigh, NC, and Todd Carlson of Fargo; 5 grandchildren: Cassie, Catie & David Carlson, Kalli Kalafatich and Kelsi Christensen; 2 great-granddaughters: Remington Kalafatich and Emerson Kalafatich; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Merland; brothers: Howard, Maynard & Lester; sisters: Hazelle Smith, Evelyn Hoganson and Doris Gjesdal.
Funeral: 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 29, 2018, West Funeral Home Chapel, in West Fargo, ND
Visitation: An hour before the funeral.
Burial: Page Cemetery, Page, ND
